The Real Cost of a No-Show (It's Not Just One Shift)

Every security company knows the 5:40pm text. Few add up what it actually costs.

Securiverse Insights graphic: The real cost of a no-show, with a 5:40pm text reading "Car's broken down. Can't make it."

It's 5:40pm on a Saturday. Your guard for the 6pm shift at a licensed venue has just texted: car's broken down, can't make it.

You know what happens next. You start going down the list. Voicemail. Voicemail. "Sorry mate, I've got the kids." Voicemail.

Forty minutes later you've found someone, probably at a higher rate, probably someone who's already done a big week. The site was uncovered for half an hour. The client noticed.

One shift. One small problem. Except it isn't.

The costs you can see

  • **Your time.** Every no-show pulls an owner or ops manager off whatever they were doing, often for an hour or more.
  • **Premium cover.** Last-minute replacements tend to come at overtime or penalty rates, or with a sweetener to get someone off the couch.
  • **Late or missed starts.** Every minute a site sits unmanned is a breach of what you promised the client.

The costs you can't see

  • **Client trust.** Clients rarely complain about the first late start. They quietly remember it at contract renewal time.
  • **Liability.** An uncovered post is exactly when something goes wrong, and it's your name on the contract.
  • **Burning out your best people.** The same reliable guards cover every gap. Eventually they get tired of being the safety net, and they leave.
  • **Burning out you.** Ops managers who spend their weekends on the phone don't stay ops managers for long.

Do the sums for your own business

Take the number of shifts you scramble to cover in a typical month. Add up the hours you or your ops manager spend on the phone, the premium paid for cover and the cost of any late starts. Then ask what one lost contract would cost you.

For most companies the answer is uncomfortable. No-shows aren't an occasional annoyance. They're a recurring cost that never shows up as its own line in the P&L.

A better list to call

The problem isn't that good guards don't exist. It's that your list is too short. When your bench is 10 names deep and it's Saturday night, you run out fast.

Securiverse gives you a much deeper bench. Post the shift, and licensed guards who want extra work can see it and apply. Their licences and certifications are on their profile, so you know who you're getting before you confirm.

Fill a Shift. Find a Shift. That's it.

No replacing your rostering system. No changing how you run your business. Just a faster, more professional way to cover the gaps.

It's live now

Securiverse is now live on the App Store & Google Play, for Security Companies & Operatives right across Australia. Download it & post your next shift.

The next no-show is already on its way. The only question is how many phone calls it costs you.
